Lesson Information

REGISTRATION:

Registration is open year around.

It is recommended that students attend lessons for a minimum of a full academic year (August - June); however, they may continue through the summer break if desired.

Students will have an opportunity to showcase in yearly piano recital. Other performances might be available as well. Some students will have a chance to perform in events sponsored by the Okaloosa County Music Teachers Association.

ATTENDANCE:

Students have one lesson per week. Duration of each session is 30 min. Students with intermediate and advanced level may have a longer lesson if they so desire. In some cases lessons can be arranged in your house at an additional rate.

PARENT PARTICIPATION:

Parents are responsible for getting their student to scheduled lessons on time, encouraging and being active in piano practice in a positive way and praise their efforts and success; provide students with opportunities to be exposed to and listen to great music in the car, at home, online, TV, and live performances. During lessons parents may quietly remain in the foyer waiting area (house living areas are off-limits). Once a month, parents are welcome to attend a lesson and quietly observe the student’s progress.  I kindly ask that non-student children not be present during lessons to avoid distration of the student.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Arrive at lessons with required piano books and a notebook.

Ensure hands are clean and fingernails are trimmed.

Read all assignments every week and thoughtfully practice.

Arrive at the lesson with a great attitude and be ready and willing to learn and to make music!

ONLINE STUDENT ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Initiate lesson video call 5 minutes prior to lesson start time in order to be prepared to start lesson on scheduled time.  Late call-ins will reduce 30 minute lesson time accordingly.  Calls after scheduled lesson may not be answered based on teacher availability.

STUDY HABITS:

For the best progress, I recommend practice to be daily with a minimum distractions. Practice sessions should be 15 - 60 minutes depending on the level and number of pieces being studied.

MISSED LESSONS:

Please provide notification of absences due to illness or family emergency as soon  as possible. Lessons missed due to family vacations are understandable; however, it is preferred notification is given a month in advance. Make-up lessons may be available based on the teacher’s availability.

TEACHER ABSENCES:

Any missed lesson due to a teacher illness or professional commitment will be rescheduled.

BILLING:

Monthly tuition is due prior to or at the first lesson of each month. Cash or personal checks are acceptable.

Absences will not be credited or reimbursed.

Students are expected to purchase the required music books and materials.
